I was watching television a few days ago and there was a show on about how scientists think love is not real. They think it is a chemical reaction in the body and it happens to trick you into thinking you love someone, so you will stay with them long enough to mate and continue the human species.
What do you think of this?
I believe this is probably somewhat true, but I also believe love is very real.

Lust is a chemical reaction, love is real and a type of magic. There is not doubt that scientist are right about there being a chemical reaction in the human body when you first meet someone. They also state that over the years this chemical reaction fades and this is why so many people feel like they fall out of love. The truth is love is something else beyond that chemical reaction. Love is a connection at a higher level with someone. There are lots of people that find lust but the majority of those people wouldn't lay down their lives for that other person though they may like saying such words. The truth is only those who really find love can do such things and can survive and create a relationship that continues to grow long after that chemical reaction has faded.

Well if it is a chemical reaction, then it is still very real in the sense that something is happening to your brain to make you "love" someone. I'm sure its a combination of many things, chemistry only being a small part of it. You need to share the same interests, enjoy spending time together, and be physically attracted to the person to some degree (which is probably the extent of the chemical role). Love is indeed real, any way you want to think about it.

I believe that love and physical attraction are two entirely separate things, physical attraction being a chemical response in the brain. A chemical reaction would be a purely pheromonal response as opposed to an emotional response. If love were a chemical reaction for procreational purposes only, why would we need physical attraction? The libido is more than enough for procreation purposes, I think love is more for protection purposes regarding family, not for breeding.

Both. When you first meet someone, you feel sparks and the chemistry is magic. Making that a chemical reaction. True love is when all the sparks die down and the "hot love" isn't as obvious. Real love is when you are friends and your friendship comes before your love relationship. A friendship should be more important.

Just because something is chemical doesn't mean it's not real. Happiness is also chemical, but that doesn't mean that we don't feel it. There's many kinds of love, for friends, for family, for lovers, and it goes on, and even if they're just chemicals and synapses, that doesn't make them any less real. We feel it, so it is there.

I believe lust is a chemical reaction. I believe love is a choice. You can choose to love or not to love anyone.
