no they don't but that's what the whole movie was about, explaining where the plane engine came from. The whole premise of the movie, or at least what I took from it, the engine was supposed to kill Donnie originally but because it didn't kill him, it sort of opens up a worm hole in the space time continuum which if left undisturbed, will destroy everything on Earth (end of the world). The entire movie is about Donnie figuring out what the hell is going on and how he is supposed to save everyone by going back in time and dying. He figures it out when you see him at the very last scene before the engine falls. He's laughing because he's pretty much overwhelmed by the fact that everything he was and saw actually had a meaning in his life and he wasn't just a pill kid. If you have the DVD, watch it with the directors commentary with Jake Gyllenhal and they explain everything as the movie goes. There's several different interpretations of the movie on various websites so if you want to see what other people think, I would check them out.

I think what happened is that the plane that the mom and the daughter were on is where the engine falls off. Donnie travels in time though so that it goes into one of those wormholes and travels back in time to fall on his house. Only when it does it after he travels back in time, he just doesn't get out of bed.

First of all this is a very sucky movie. Donnie is borderline delusional, beset by visions of a monstrous rabbit which is trying to keep him under its sinister influence. A MONSTROUS RABBIT. HAHAHAHAHA. HOW STUPID CAN YOU GET? A MONSTROUS RABBIT. JUST THINK ABOUT HOW STUPID THAT SOUNDS. He fights his demons (which is basically a guy in a rabbit costume) Bad story and ok acting and an unexplained ending (and random). Think about it. A jet engine falls out of the sky and crashes on Donnie. How random is that. The director must have been desperate for a ending.

don't try to think into it anymore then you have to. It was a good movie, it makes you think for a couple of seconds, but there is no higher level about it that you are supposed to understand. Just think about it for a couple seconds and be like, oh i guess that was cool.

You remember that book that the old lady was excommunitcated from nunhood for writing? That book explains it all, and they have it on the DVD extras to read. Or online.

I think: He saw how the life would be If he didn't stay in the bed.... so at the end he decided to stay there lying in the bed...because he incurred a death of his girlfriend .... in short....
