Check out http://www.jonesboroinfo.net/Hardware there should be a link there for Appliance Repairs. They are a parts house but also offer detailed instructions on diagnosing problems and offer free advice as well.

If it's a Kenmore, whirlpool if you can hear the timer clicking away, but when you push the button nothing happen, I know exactly whats wrong.. But you'll have to email me for me to tell you..kathleen_s_73110@yahoo.com I am for real. Well I'll tell you any how. If the lint screen is located on top of the dryer, take the back off. Of course UN plug it before you do anything.. After you've taken the back off, look at the bottom left hand side of the back of the dryer. There should be a white sensor, it will have a black line going across it. It's a fuse. that goes out when the motor is getting too hot. Because you're not cleaning the lint filter enough..Take the two wires off of the fuse, it's white oval shaped with a black line going thorough it. put those two wires together, tape them with electric tape. plug the dryer in and it should come on. Go buy that fuse, and replace it. If you don't your house will catch on fire. If the dryer has the lint filter in the door of the dryer, you will have to take the front of the dryer off and look for the same fuse located in the front instead of the back.. It all depends on if the lint filter is in the door or on top of the dryer..If you'd said Maytag at first, you'd saved me a lot of typing. If it's old get rid of it, and if it's new don't buy it.. get a whirlpool with the lint filter on top of the dryer.

Well I assume it is plugged-in.....!
Next thing I suggest to check is the door lock: Somewhere in / around your door (depends on model) is a contact that "knows" when the door is fully closed and secured. The dryer won't start without that signal. That contact could be faulty.
Also possible:
- Fluff filter is glogged-up (but there should be a warning light)
- Condensation water container is full (absorpion models only).
- You have a quite new model with micro controller chip. A recent power brown-out or thunderstorm spike screwed-up the electronic. Unplug, wait a few seconds, plug-in again, try.....

I can only go by my Sears dryer, but I've had to replace the door switch and the start switch. The start switch pushes in ( and releases) to start the dryer, after the door closes. It was only a couple of dollars to replace. The door switch is a magnetic safety switch which prevents the dryer from running with the door open. I had the service person replace it.
Before you call anybody, though, check the plug to make sure it's in and that there is power to that outlet (see your fuse box).
I was told that many times they have charged people $75.00 for a house call only to have to plug in the dryer or reset the circuit breaker.

I know this sounds stupid but make sure it's plugged in all the way. Vibration, a pet, or a kid may have unplugged it. Next check the circuit breaker to make sure it hasn't tripped. Beyond that, call a pro.

Check the lint trap first, then check your fuse box and make sure it's switched on. If nothing, time to call the repairman.

mine did this the other day, not sure if yours has the same device. but where the controls are, is there one that says, (off, 60 minutes, 90 minutes) well if its on off, turn it to the others. sounds like i'm being mean but I swear, mine did it and I had to wait for my BF to come home to fix it. I felt like a dummy.

Have you tried the breaker box? Sometimes especially with peak electric seasons like we are having now, you just need to flip the breaker back and forth to reset it.
