"Skittles are small, round fruit chews that come in a hard candy shell with a letter "s" printed on it. They are almost identical in appearance to the plain variety of the chocolate candy M&M's, which, like Skittles, are produced by Mars, Incorporated. They are sold either in packs or in a cup-shaped containers ranging in size from 7.3oz to 48oz. A favorite of children, Skittles have made multiple appearances within pop culture, including in The Simpsons and Family Guy. Skittles are also commonly used by mathematics teachers to demonstrate probability using the color distribution."

Skittles, Skittles, bite sized candies- taste the rainbow in Skittles. Oh sorry, commercial from my youth.
Anyway they are fruit flavored candies. The outer shell is similar to that of M-M's but the insides are fruit. Orange, Grape, Strawberry, Lemon, and Lime unless you pick up the Sour ones or some other whacked out packages they have now. I stick to the original ones that are in the red package.
Delicious!

They are like M&Ms, but fruit flavors and not chocolate. It is candy.
I'm gonna go grab a pack of sour skittles right now.

Ingredients: Sugar, glucose syrup, hydrogenated vegetable fat, citric acid, fruit juices (see above), dextrin, maltodextrin, flavourings, modified starch, colours, glazing agent (carnuba wax).
Given that ingredients are listed by what appears in the highest to lowest concentration, you're looking at artificially-flavored sugar turned into a paste by glucose syrup and then encased in a vegetable fat / wax shell. Mmmm...
