That is so hard to do, but as a professional you have to unless you would like to loose your job and or your license.
I have worked as a nurses aide for about 10yrs. There were so many times that I wanted to say something, like we had this guy that used to beat on his wife and kids daily. And another guy was there because he killed his mom and was sent to the nursing/psych home that I worked at after his realease. These are just some of the examples of people that you are going to deal with.
It was very hard but when people get up there in age and have alzheimers/dimentia they do not remember how they used to be. So it is just our jobs to show compassion. Just remember there can be someone much worse lurking around your neighborhood, or your kids school.

A nurse acts in a professional manner. She does not see her patients in the context of their life history or what they do for a living. Good or bad, once a atient comes to you for treatment nothing else matters. Neither can a doctor refuse to attend to a patient because he is a murderer.

Kudos to those in the medical field. This is exactly why I couldn't go into it. I think the minute I found out an aids patient knew about their diagnosis, but were having unprotected sex with alot of people.....I don't know what I'd do. LOL The same with knowing a variety of medical/life history facts about people. When it comes to certain groups of people...particularly those who have harmed others....the less I know, the better off I am.

I would think nurses and doctors would do the job they are suppose to do and not let their personal feeling come into it. They are professionals and if they lack that then they shouldn't be doing the job

It's professionalism.
If you start deciding who does and does not 'deserve' your help you risk a very slippery slope. Who would you treat, a child from a 'good' family who might grow up to be a doctor and help people or a child whose parents are in prison and looks like heading the same way?
They are patients first and foremost.

I take it that there are no second chances in your philosophy, no redemption, no allowable mistakes? I know there are a lot of bad people out there, but you know they can come to realise the error of their ways.
I hope for your sake, then that you get through life without slipping up once or ever stepping out of line. I believe that the way one judges is the measure of judgement one will receive.

you are a patient advocate not a judge or jury and it is your duty to take care of broken people and help them find optimal wellness, through collaborative healthcare planning and implementatiopn or find another profession you can handle, love yourself, not your patients, take care of yourself and your patients or lose your license and there is nothing worse than an ignorant nurse with no integrity

I guess its the need to keep a Job and be professional. I couldn't do it though i would have to do something like leave them in there own piss and torture them so they can feel what they have put their victims through.

No human being should suffer, it is not always easy to care for people when you know they have done something so evil, but to be without concern would be the same as them.

Nurses don't always know who we are nursing, they don't have it stamped on their forehead and are not required to volunteer that kind of info...
