I actually just had this procedure done last Friday. I was really nervous that it was going to hurt, but it was no problem. I took 800mg of ibuprofen about 30 minutes before I went in, and all I felt was the mildest of cramping right when they put the "dye" in. It was no problem at all. I spotted only a little bit, and was able to have sex the next day. You shouldn't have to take a month off, and actually the radiologist told me that many women (for whatever reason) are able to get pregnant shortly after this procedure. Good luck!

Easy procedure. You'll have some cramping that feels like menstrual cramps. It will hurt a bit more if a tube is blocked. Some people take an over-the-counter pain killer before the procedure.
You can go about your everyday activities after the procedure and its safe to have sex. In fact, in some women, it increases their chances of concieving as it has a certain "cleansing" effect.

I'm going tomorrow for an hsg. I was given doxycycline, lortab, and xanax to take before the procedure--I really think this might be over-kill! The dr said we can try this month and my fertility would be increased for about 6 months because the dye "cleans" the tubes out.
