Cd-rom is limited to 720 megabyte and dvd is at 4.4 gigabyte. So a Dvd will hold roughly 6 cdroms. also most videos are larger than the size necessary to fit on a dvd so it is normally stored on a DVD. Alot of games are starting to come on DVD because of the size of the games. Once the games start reaching 4 to 5 discs manufacturers consider placing on dvd since it is becoming a widely recognized format and more users are gettign DVD drives.

Yes, but in different formats. You probably couldn't save a movie file on a CD and throw it in your player, i doubt that would work. A DVD is basically a high-capacity CD. They both physically store data in similar ways, but the DVD has different formatting so that a DVD player will recognize it as a movie.

Yes, it's the difference between the storage capacity.
CD = Compact Disc
DVD = Digital Versatile (Video) Disc - with dual layer technology has more capacity (more info at wikipedia: DVD)

CD stands for COMPACT DISK not compaq disk.

DVD just has a lot more space in it. You can save whatever you want on them. DVD just has more room.

Basically, the difference is space.
And with movies, space = quality

CD-ROM = approx 700MB
DVD = approx 4.2 GB or 4400MB
