I live in San Francisco, california and at my local store i see hundreds of people using their food stamp cards to buy beer, cigarettes, liquor, and sometimes food. But when they drive away it usually in a new late model car sittin on "dubs" with a stereo system that could double as an Air Raid siren for most big citites. Im college educated professional and it blows my mind how this happens.

I see the same thing in North Carolina. I too am a college educated professional and get absolutely disgusted at the way things are. I feel like I bust my butt to make ends meet and get by so that others can use my tax dollars to get everything they WANT- notice I didn't say need. I know there are people out there that really do need the system to help them out some time, but I think states should do a better job tracking these people and limiting their time on welfare. Anyone could find themselves in that situation, I just feel like if I were to need it, they would tell me NO.

You being from San Francisco should know. All the people there are for programs that waste government money aren't they?
But as far as I know food stamp cards don't allow purchases like beer, cigarettes and the like. I don't even think you can purchase things like frozen pizza...you have to buy whole foods like fruit and meats and rice. I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong though.

It should not be so. If someone is purchasing alcohol or cigarettes with a food stamp card, you should report that establishment. It is in violation of federal law.

Every person who claims to have observed this should report it. Eliminate the illegal activity.

According to the United States Office of Budget and Management the food stamp program accounts for one tenth of one percent of the annual budget. That isn't very much so I'm all for any program that can feed children.

That said, grown men can find work. If you suspect fraud report it and see if we can't take care of it.

your making this up.
California food stamp laws.
1> Vehicle must be under 6.000.00 in value
2. the person must live at least 50% under the poverty level
3. Food stamps can only be used to buy Food only
4. They cannot own a home

I think the real reason you are so upset is that you cant find a job, pick on someone else. Are trying to say that no one in your own family has never been on food stamps?

You are absolutely right, my friend. I used to be a pharmacy tech and we would get people all the time coming in and getting their rx's on medicaid and talking on their cell phone w/ their fingernails and hair done. BTW, at the time I didn't have a cell phone, had never had a manicure, or anything but a cut from a hair salon. Oh yeah, and driving away in a nice car and I didn't even have A/C in mine. Because they are screwing the system. My mother is a single parent, my brother is very ill, and we work really hard. But now we "make too much money" for food stamps or any other kind of help. She has no health insurance, bills are piling up, and you have your crack-head people on food stamps driving new cars. I don't get it either!

You might want to use those brain cells to try to determine how you can work to your full potential so that you can afford that nice car.

Moaning and groaning about your plight in life isn't going to get it.

So, people cheat the system. So what? Try to prove that hard work and dedication trumps laziness and expected entitlement.

Ah, shoot, I'm trying to give you a hard time, but you're right.

Life sucks, then you die.

Cuz, basically when you don't have pay for something you get used to that and just apply for more and various types of assistance. You keep doing your regular job but can save or spend alot more money cause everyone else is paying your rent, your food, your electricity, etc

Cuz they're operating a cash business "under the table".

Problem is, God sees "under the table". Don't worry, eventually the cash monetary system will be all gone and then, the jig will be up.
