The chances are good, but first, you should know what type it is (DDR, DDR2, SDRAM, RDRAM), or at least compare it to the hp's existing ram to make sure that the contacts on the bottom have the slot(s) in the same place. Another thing to take into consideration, is that there are different data rate capabilities for all types of ram. For example, within the DDR standard, there is DDR200, DDR266, DDR333, DDR400...etc. The ram you install should be able to handle an equal or faster data rate than what the computers current ram runs at. Ram modules often have a sticker on them telling what data rate they are.

It all depends on if they are a simalar platform.
If the E-machine is uses pc 100 or pc 133 and the HP uses pc2100 or higher the chips wont physically fit. however if the HP is compatible with PC 4000 and you have a stick or 2 of pc 2100 it will underclock the memory bus and you will have more memory just running at the slower speed.

It depends on whether or not the motherboards are similar enough. You may need to determine the brand and type of memory in the e-machine, and then contact HP to see if that type of memory is compatible with the machine you have.

If you put the wrong type of memory in your computer, it may not boot up, or it might become extremely slow, so be careful with this.

Depends if the motherboard on both machine are the same.
I would check the memory on the HP machine as well as the e-Machine. If they are the same type of memory, they will have no issue
