Science has shown that a person can only memorize a string of 7 "small numbers" confidently in a short span of time. To ingrain them into permanent memory takes roughly 24 hours of repeated use. Therefore, you should be able to remember 49 digits very well in a week... but why?

I had a JHS teacher that would give 1 bonus point on a test for every digit of pi memorized...

I really think it depends on the individual. Some people have distinct memories, like the rainman for example. He remembers whole books word for word. Im not too bad, but I think the best I could do would be about 25.

To be comfortable, I could memorize ten digits a day for seven days. So a total of seventy digits. If I work hard at it I could push for more.

Ten digits maximum but seven digits is often. We should protect our brain so if too long, I call computer, notebook, hand phone ... or one kind friend for help.
