The area of a trapezoid can be found using the formula 1 over 2 ( B+b )h. You are the chief engineer at a company that builds trapezoidally shaped pools. You need to create a pool cover that will cover this shape pool. You know that the (B) Base equals 5 ' and the (b) base equals 10 ' . The ( h ) height from the base to base equals 12 ' . How much area do you need to cover??

B = 5 ft
b = 10 ft
h = 12 ft

Let A = the area of the trapezoid in sq ft.

I believe the area of a trapezoid is found using the following formula:

A = ((B + b)/2)h

Anyway, plug in the values for each variable and do the math.

A = ((10 + 5)/2)*12
A = (15/2)(12)
A = (15)(6)
A = 90 square feet

Hope this helps.

By the way, your phrasing of the formula makes it hard to interpret as 1 over 2 could lead to an equation that looks like this:

A = 1/(2 (B+b)h)

So you're essentially asking the area of the surface of the pool? If so, follow the formula. 1/2 (b1 + b2) *h.

Fortunately, you can utilize the commutative property and change
1/2 (10 + 5) * 12 into
1/2*12*(10+5)

This makes multiplying easier since 1/2 times 12 is a whole number.

So, now you have 6 * 15.

Which I think you can do on your own.

Obviously, I skipped some steps so that I didn't do ALL of your homework for you. :)

By the way, MOD's answer is REALLY wrong. Please follow the formula and standard order of operations.

Make it a little bit bigger and have customer trim to fit when he gets it.

. . . I couldn't resist. I did ask my son if he knew, but he's only in 8th grade, super smart, though, wants to be engineer. Good luck

I dunno maybe it 5/10 x12
so i guess it would be like 6u2 or something.

or maybe its 5x10x12
so it would be 510u2

If my answer doesnt work sorry. Im goin into 8th grade so i dont know algebra and Im not to good at word problems so I tried.
