Well, first of all, you are not required to include your GPA (major or overall) on your resume. If it is good, you may wish to include it. The failed class absolutely will be part of the overall GPA. Whether or not it must be included as part of your major GPA is a gray area, since you did not use the credit for this course to satisfy your major requirements. However, a saavy employer may notice that you omitted this class from your major GPA, even though it would technically be a class in your major field. You then have to explain this away, putting you in an awkward position, and putting your candidacy in an unfavorable light. Your best bet is to either omit the GPA entirely, or include it with the "F" grade as part of the calculation (but only do this if the GPA with the "F" is still impressive enough to do you any good).
I hope this helps, and good luck!

Yes, if you are calculating a cumulative GPA, you have to include all courses whether or not they count towards the major GPA, because your archaeology class would be considered an additional elective class thats adds to your overall major. In fact, all courses have to be counted towards the GPA whether they were part of the required courses or not, unless those courses were WD.

If you did not withdraw before you failed that class - then yes, this class is a part of your GPA. A company can ask for a copy of your school transcripts anyway, so don't lie and or try to cover it up. Lieing is ugly, unethical, and one sure way to get fired or to earn the distrust of your employers.
Now, there is an ethical way to deal with this. You can put on your Resume "My GPA in my major was ... " because while you failed that class, obviously that did not stop you from graduating within your major. That way if you do have to provide a copy of your transcripts, you can tell them that class was not in your major.

All you need to do is re-take the class, then apply for course forgiveness in the records office. Then that "F" won't count toward your GPA (but you can still see it on your record, with a notation)
Good Luck!

If it was part of your major than it has to be included in your major related GPA, however if it was just an elective course than no you do not have to include it.

If you took the class, it is figured in the GPA as 0.

Of course. YOU MUST INCLUDE IT. You can't pick and choose which classes you include in your GPA. If you could do that..everyone would have an A---4.0. All you need is one A, exclude all your b's c's, d's and f's...and you've got an A.

Do include it...cause if that employer asks your school for your transcripts...they will think you were over-estimating your GPA...so be honest and include everything...if they do point it out...tell them it is not essential as it does not relate to my major...as easy as that
and good luck :)

If you get an F, it counts against your GPA. Sorry.
