Why would your significant other lie to you about where they have been and who they were with if not cheating?

They wouldn't, well they might if they were doing something else that you wouldn't approve of, or if you make things difficult and are harsh about everyday things they might find it easier just to lie to you. Say you don't like her shoe shopping, when she goes you yell and scream and make her miserable, she goes shoe shopping, thats not cheating but she chooses to say she was doing something else because she knows you are an a$$ about shoe shopping. See what I mean? Cheating is NOT the only reason for lying (although I agree its a likely scenario) but if you are really trying to get to the truth you must consider how easy you are to get along with too. People often alienate one another by making accusations and being unreasonable and then wonder why the other feels compelled to lie to them, they make telling the truth too much hassle thats why. Either way your relationship is in serious trouble, because even if it is shoe shopping and she doesn't want to deal with your bs over something that silly you have serious issues, another guy just isn't one of them, at least not yet.

Depends.
Have you been hounding him ? Do you feel like you get to know what he does every minute of every day ? Do you bug him about everything he does ? Have you expected him to take you along to everything and, if he doesn't, then to tell you about it in infinite detail ?

Have you given him any space to BREATHE ?

I am not condoning the lie - nor am I convinced he wasn't cheating, but you haven't given any of us enough information to make that determination. Nobody here can say with any certainty that he was or was not cheating. We could all say that he shouldn't have lied - and all I am saying is look to see if you have any responsibility for the lie before you make any assumptions.

Well, there could be a number of reasons: They might have cheated, they might be doing something like drugs that they don't want you to know about, they could be talking to an ex, etc. But they shouldn't be lying to you, and if you know that your significant other is, call him/her out on it, and tell him/her you need to know the TRUTH about what's going on. If he/she can't come clean about it, then that should make things clear that the relationship won't work. Honesty is one of the most important things in a relationship.

Because they don't want to have a fight over something harmless.

You probably have a tendency to get jealousy, or possessive...and it's better to lie than be honest in hopes you never find out.

That's my best answer. I definitely can think of a zillion examples to this where cheating is not in the picture.

He lies about what he is doing after work and who he is with. I don't think he would cheat on me, but he has lied about what he was put in jail for a few years ago. I was pregnant with our daughter and he was driving truck over the road. He was across town, getting the refer fixed on the trailer. When he got picked up for solication of a undercover cop for prostiution. He called me at 3am in the morning and told me he got arrested for an outstanding ticket from another state. I needed to come and bail him out. I needed to call his parents since I was not working at the time. Anyway come to find out the truth and I felt like an *** for getting him out of jail even after having to tell his parents what I needed them for.

well I can't think of any reason why they would lie about where they've been or who they were with unless they were cheating....UNLESS you have an anniversary, birthday, special date coming up....maybe they are planning a surprise...if it is a continuous thing that has been going on for a while or continues for a while...i'd say probably cheating...

It is possible they were hanging out with friends but dont want to tell you because you would be mad. Perhaps you dont approve of the friend he was with. I would say, however, that 9 out of 10 times if a guy lies about where and who he was with, he was doing something with someone he should not have been doing.

Because they can lie..and because everyone lie ones or twice a day.....if its about where they were...thts strange.....DO a background check on her friends and her......then you will know if she is cheating on you...he might be yelling a lie because she wants to make you a wonderful surprise...Good One.....

Good question. If their not cheating maybe it is certain personal isues that they are having, doubts about the relationship, moving to fast, lost sense of individual identity, I've been there and i'm still there.

Because it was a potentially compromising situation and they assumed you would assume they were cheating even if they were not so they thought better to lie.
