They refuse to remove the liberal rose colored glasses.
The real reason is that progressive liberal diplomacy is scared of the old tried & true conservative method of crushing your enemy into submission. Peace through strentgh works but is old fashioned. Instabilty & terrorism wins with liberal diplomacy - See North Korea and Iran as examples.
