you can use search ,by going to the start menu, and then clicking on search and searching for the name of the file you downloaded, otherwise you could make it so everything you download goes in your my documents folder.

thats what i do, so its a snap getting everything i need to get and then from there i install the program or put whatever i download into another folder if its music or pictures.

to get it to save into the my documents, basically when you click something to download, youll notice save in and a bunch of folders or icons at the bottom right, so just click on save in and look for my documents. and then whenever you want to go to my documents, go to your start menu and it should be there if your on windows xp. if your on another windows, the my documents should be on your desktop anyway.

If you just downloaded it and you forgot what directory, download something else, or download it again. Before pressing "Save", simply copy the directory name... :)

The download directory is a "sticky" property, which means Explorer will remember the last directory it downloaded a file to. The next time you download something, it will try to put it in the same directory as the last download.
