Mix equal parts Boric Acid (borax) with sugar and put it where you see ants coming in. The ants will be attracted to the sugar and carry the borax back to the queen and it will kill her.

These are the best two tips I found through eHow.com, even though the first started being about fleas:

Essential oil of Lavender Shawn Cunningham
My cats and dog were heavily infested with fleas. I rubbed a few drops of lavender oil into their fur, then put a drop of oil in every corner of every room in my house. Within a few hours, there was not a flea to be found, as well as no ants, flies, or spiders. It's been two years, and I haven't had a single flea! I have not re-applied to the animals, but once a month I re-apply the drop in all corners.

Neutra-Air by Lysol eHow Friend
My wife said, "Please just do something!" so I found the nearest thing that would spray. Apparently I lucked out, because not only did Neutra Air kill most of the ants on contact, but they wouldn't go near that area again because of the smell (though we didn't really notice it unless we tried). I sprayed some on the carpet and in other areas. The ants wouldn't go near those areas

Check the link below for 68 other tips from users at eHow if these don't suit you -- they have many other suggestions that may help. Good luck to ya!

Cheap and easy fix, buy 20 Mule Team Borax laundry soap, put it in a squeeze ketchup bottle that you can buy at any dollar store, put the dry soap in the ketchup bottle and apply along baseboards around the room, then spirinkle into your carpet and leave lay for several days until you no longer see any signs of the ants, they will carry it back to their nest and it WILL kill them. When you no longer see any signs of the ants vacuum up the laundry soap and dispose of it. Save the rest of the box of soap to do laundry with. This is about a five dollar or less fix.
