Photosynthesis is an important biochemical process in which plants, algae, some bacteria, and some protists convert the energy of sunlight into chemical energy. The energy from light is used to make simple sugars that are converted to glucose the major food molecule of the cell.
Photosynthesis uses the energy of light to make the sugar glucose. A simplified general equation for photosynthesis is:
6 CO2 + 12 H2O + light → C6H12O6 + 6 O2 + 6 H2O
Good luck

for every nutrition three chief sources are necessary.
1. carbon source
2. energy source
3. electron source
for phototrophic nutrition light (photon packets) serve the energy. in this case the carbon can be organic (heterotrophic nutrition), which will be termed photoorganotrophic nutrition. The term suggests that the related organisms use pre-formed organic carbons for their nutrition.
But in case where the organisms utilize an inorganic carbon source and turn it into an organic carbon compound in the process is known as autotrophy.
The algae and the plants in majority use the process where light serves as the energy source, inorganic carbon (carbon di oxide) as the carbon source and water supplies the electrons .
Thus their nutrition is autotrophic, more specifically photoautotrophic and to be exact photo litho trophic nutrition.thus they can be called photolithotrophs or photoautotrohs as well.
since lithotrophy means autotrophy hence using terms like photolithoautotrophy will be incorrect.

Carbon dioxide is the byproduct of respiration. Sunlight causes the reaction it is not the food.

Yes, plants use carbon dioxide, sunlight & water. Oxygen is their waste product. (but of course that oxygen production is critical for us & other animals).
