Although there are no obvious, visible ruins (i.e. old buildings, temples, etc) in the Mesopotamian region (as there are in Egypt) there are are still a LOT of archaeological remains (i.e. cemeteries/burials). And also do know that the term "Mesopotamia" often encompasses studies of Anataolia (Turkey), Syria, parts the Levant (Palestine), and Southwestern Iran. However, the word Mesopotamia actually means 'the land between two rivers' which are the Tigris and the Euphrates which pass through Iraq and neighboring countries.

Yes, there are still remains despite the wars. There have been wars for centuries, this will not destroy all the remains.
I saw some interesting ruins when there in the spearhead of the invasion this last one. My favourite was the Eastern Gate and cemetery which is visible from the highway that edges north and east of the Tigris, the section between the Olympic Village and the market by the Tigris near the Jordanian Embassy.

actually there are few remains left because of all the wars through time, but the original aqueducts and the ruins of the hanging gardens are still visible! You know Mesopotamia is now known as Iraq?
