I got a 2nd degree sunburn on my arms about a week ago. Since then, it has peeled and I have peeled the skin off. I know I shouldn't have because I have heard that it will leave scars. Is this true? Right now, I have patches of different colored skin from where I have peeled. The rest of the skin hasn't peeled. I'm not sure if it will or not. My question is.....is there anything I can do that will speed up the healing process? Also, will the skin scar and leave my arms discolored like they are now? They are varying shades of pink and brown. Help! I look funny!

the peeling won't leave scars...it is simply the skin renewing itself. Sunburn is actually damage to skin, and your skin's defense is to renew itself by peeling off . Excessive sun exposure can lead to cancer, so be careful.
As far as the peeling, you will have to let your skin do its thing, but you eliminate some of the discomfort with Aloe gel. You can buy some at any drugstore or Wal-Mart. If you have an aloe plant at home, then best thing is to pick an aloe leaf from a plant and apply it...it works even better than the stuff you buy in the store. Keep your skin moisturized, and that will help even out the tone.

I had this happen to me lots as a kid.

Stop peeling it yourself, the skin underneath is very tender, and if you break it it could scar.

The discolouration should go away in time. The best thing to do is to leave it alone. Once the skin is healed (so that there are no more blisters), you could try rubbing a little vitamin E oil into it. If anything gets pus filled or yucky make sure you see your doctor.

Hope you feel better. And it is best to invest in some good sunscreen. :)

If you have not seen a dermatologist, see one. You can get lesions from a bad sunburn that are pre-cancerous and should be removed. Aloe vera juice
(Fruit of the Earth, 100% pure, at Walmart) is the best thing to heal skin. Obviously do not expose yourself further. Wear clothing that sunlight does not penetrate if you go out.

I have very fair skin. When i burn, my skin gets patchy. (i think even tans come in bottles) My skin will peel, but it does not scar. Light lotion or aloe vera will help with the itchyness. Otherwise, you just sit back and wait for it to peel.

Remember the fda just approved a sunblock taht actually blocks u.v. rays. This is something that has been available to people in other countries. .. only now the u.s.

If I were you, I would apply aloe directly to the skin several times a day and I would also use a Neutrogena sunless tanning product (they work great, no streaks) to minimize the skin discoloration.

DO NOT PICK! That goes for pimples too. It will scar. If it burns, use noxzema. It will cool the burning. Definitely moisturize your skin. Try Curel, it works great. Hope you heal soon.
