The sporty equates to a compact car with a v-8. The 883 would be like the small block and the 1200 the big block. I don't care what anyone says. The sportster was built to be a performance machine and that is what it is. I am 6-4, 220, I had an 883 for a couple of years. It was lowered, Thunderheader, LePera seat, risers w/z bars, very old school looking yellow flames on black. Yes, I might have looked like a gorilla on it but when one of my best (sporty bashin) buddies went for a ride with me through the redwoods and he couldn't get away from me on his Ninja, he gained a new respect for the little machine. I loved my sporty and sometimes I think I would like to have another one but it was just to uncomfortable for me being so tall. That is really the only Harley I ever wanted. If I could have another one of my choice it would probably be something like an XR but I know that will never happen. Maybe a Scrambler would be easier to obtain in the near future.
If it is a motorcycle it is cool.

I am 6'2" and about 250 lbs. An 883 would be like a 2 wheel suppository for me.

The 883 is way too small
Buy at least a 1200 if you insist on buying a Harley..

Ok if you are just learning to ride. A good starter bike. Once it gets too small for you, you can always trade up to a 1200 or a dyna.

If you are going to buy one wait till the 2007s come out they will be fuel injected which will be a major improvement.

Much too heavy for a middleweight (cc) bike.
