If there are no errors on the play then yes, it is a home run. Most times though there is some kind of error which leads to the runner going home. In that case it is considered a whatever the last base you touch safely prior to the error. For example, if you touch 2nd and then there is an error then you only get a double.

yes it does count towards their season homerun total. its still a homerun only the batter works a little bit harder to hit and inside the park homerun than one that is hit over the fence.
