Because voip rocks. It's waaaaaaay cheaper. Like $9.95/month at voip.com vs. $35/month with SBC/AT&T. And? You can do more with it. Like did you know you can take your voip internet phone adapter with you when you travel and then plug it into your friend's broadband or hotel or whatever and then make and receive calls exactly as if you were still at home?

They give away premium features like CallerID and voicemail, but phone or cable companies will charge you through the nose for that stuff.

Because instead of paying $30 a month for making just one or two calls, locally, you can pay just $22 (including tax) to packet8 and get unlimited calls a month...a no brainer
