I know the purists don't like this idea, but I would definitely be in favor of implementing it in both leagues.
As a fan, there's nothing more annoying than having an almost-guaranteed rally-killer when the ninth spot in the order comes due. And what kind of copout is it when a pitcher can intentionally walk an 8th-place hitter in order to get to the pitcher?
I know people talk a lot about the "strategy" involved in NL play with having to manage the pitcher's spot in the order, but that's totally overvalued. If you use that argument, then you could say that managers pitching in the AL is more difficult because you don't get any easy outs in the order.
There's also a strong feeling amony many that the NL plays "real" baseball with the pitcher batting, but I think that's a weak argument given the fact that the NL isn't exactly dominating lately when it comes to play between the leagues.

Actually AL is the different one. Baseball use to have no DH's in it until the AL adopted it in 1973 to spark intrest. The DH just to entertain the fans because they like high scoring games and homeruns. That's like asking for a timeout in soccer, so a better kicker can come in and score a goal. But once it's defense time, then take him out because he sucks.
Craig S i like how you talk about all these horrible reasons every NL fan brings up, but you just had one. "Did you see any of the interleague play this year?"
Yes i have seen it. Have you seen it every other year?
Look at the totals for interleague play all together from 1997 the record as it stands is NL- 1,104 AL -1,095
Baseball goes in cycles - Look at the All Star game standings from 1960-1990 It was NL -26 AL -7 (They played 2 games a year from 60-62 and one was a tie.)
And here's the all time record for All Star series: National League 41, American League 34, 2 ties .
It's not like the AL is dominating with it if the scores are all pretty even.

Yes!! The DH has made the game more exciting and has eliminated a useless bat from the lineup. Fans go to the games to see great pitching and/or great hitting. The hitting is exciting and brings them back time and time again. The NL has to do something to put some life into them. They are boring and can't seem to beat the AL in either the annual All Star Game or in the World Series. Maybe the DH would give them the boost they need. They need something!
Chow!!

>>Missourri Tasy<< To prove your point that the NL brand of ball is better, you cite the all-star game as proof.. While you conveniently left out the World Series records of the two leagues...The World Series is a MUCH more accurate way to measure the relative strengths of the leagues down through the years as apposed to a once a year exhibition game..The AL leads in WS wins with 60 to 41 for the NL...
BTW - I'm a Cardinal fan, who thinks the DH should, for the good of the game go the way of the dinosaur.

I say hell no. The Designated Hitter is what is making the difference right now between the American League and the National League. If we get rid of the DH, I am sure that as a result, we will have more pitchers who will actually look like they have a half decent swing instead of giving the opposite site of the field a few puffs of air conditioning.

i don't think there should be a DH in the AL OR NL. i think pitchers should be forced to bat in both leagues, all a DH is, is a good hitter who can't field worth a crap, and they say pitchers are like glorified placekickers because they only play every 5 days, well DHs are worse because they are hardly on the field. if they strikeout, thy not back on the field for another 8 batters. and besides some DHs can't hit worth a crap, and some pitchers can hit very well.

no. Oddly enough, the AL boasts greater offensive power because of the DH, but not having a DH makes teams play smart baseball.
