I don't think they are, except maybe in high school. Oh yeah and any one who opposes the war in Iraq gets a hard time for being unpatriotic and a potential traitor. But on the whole under normal circumstances I think "society" appreciates peaceful,creative, intelligent people. One of the most respected men in America today is Bill Moyers who is one of the most peaceful, creative, intelligent people on the planet. He is only ridiculed by people who disagree with him. Maybe that's the problem other PIC people have. They stand for things that non peaceful, unintelligent, non creative people can't relate to.

It's because they don't fit in. There is something different about gifted people that the rest of the world finds discomforting and because it is the nature of people to put others down in order to boost their own egos the gifted ones are either worshiped as idols or tormented ceaselessly.

You just have to keep on being peaceful, intelligent, and creative, and focus on what matters to you. Save your energy for that, and not for worrying what 'they' think.
