who thinks that what Israel is doing is completely justified and respectable... they are one of VERY few countries who have leaders as decisive and commanding of respect as Olmert. They have invaded a country who we have known for YEARS to harbor and support the terrorist organization Hizbollah and one 2 of the top 10 terrorists on the FBI most wanted list... Israel not making the same mistake it made years ago when 3 soldiers were unjustly taken hostage and killed by the same terrorists... I just wish half of this country would have the strength and conviction of Israel who is now at a 95% approval rating of Olmert's decisions regarding Lebanon.

If you were to read Yahoo! Answers, you might think so. However, consider the fact that the Bush administration (like them or not) has refused to order Israel to stop their military operations short of achieving their goals. Israel is acting correctly, and the use of force is appropriate. It may not be pleasant, but it is the right thing to do. What are they going to do?Stop attacking Hezbollah and withdraw when they're still dealing with rocket attacks several times a day? Not likely. We would demand our government take similar if not identical action. In fact, we did after 9/11...
If you don't defend yourself, nobody else will either. If you fail to deal with terrorism in your country, someone else eventually will. The Syrians and Lebanese are the ones to blame, NOT the Israelis...

You aren't the only one but it seems hard to believe that there aren't more. What is truly amazing to me is how many people there are in this country who (a) have no idea what the history of the situation is, (b) see a couple of news photos of dead babies and make up their minds from that, (c) WILL NOT read below the headlines, and (d) have nothing more than a totally superficial understanding of the situation and are quite happy to blare that to the world at large.
I'm not a knee-jerk Israeli supporter by any means, and I'm very concerned that Israel is venturing in too far, especially in Gaza. But if the people who are so quick to condemn Israel in this situation knew what they were saying and who they were tacitly or otherwise supporting they'd be ashamed of themselves. Of course getting to that point would require, say, reading that part of the paper that is beneath the headline or picking up a book on the middle east or turning off the local news to go to something with a bit more substance like CNN -- and, really, in this country, what are the odds of THAT happening?

ISrael is a regional superpower and it needs tos end a messag to thosae who would do ehr harm. Although i do not think that ISrael thought out this plan completely. Yes Hizbollah and Hamas should be weeded out, but to delcare war on a stateless societey whose soldiers live with civilians can only lead to more support for terrorist organisations. PArtly out of the simple anger of teh civilians and partly because the actiuionsa of Israel fit the rhetoric of terrorist LEaders. Israel is ain a dangerous position of losing facce in a volatile area. There is no easy victory or simply way to find all terrorists or weapon caches. Israel is right to fight those who would do harm, however, she is using outdated methods.

I think it's nice to see a country finally care about it's own people who have been taken hostage. We have had citizens taken hostage and have done nothing. I give props to Isreal for addressing their love for those 2 soldiers. If only more country's, like the U.S.A., would do this as well.....
Now, in the same breath, I don't condone killing innocent civilians. But I respect their decision to take action against kidnappers. If Hezbollah wanted to avoid conflict, they could've released the two soldiers. But they chose not to, and here we are today.

yeah Israel is at a 95% approval rating for Olmert, but what about the innocent Lebanese civilians? I'm betting their approval rate for Olmert isn't that high...

If the KKK kidnapped a African soldier who was vacationing in the US, Would his country have the right to carry out terrorist attacks against innocent Americans because they give refuge to the KKK?

Justified. Please.
Murder and Genocide are not justified.
I guess they were justified in stealing the land from the arabs at the turn of the century too eh?
Why don't you look up history past the last 40 years.

I don't know much about the conflict, but from what I understand, Israel is defending themselves and there is nothing wrong with that, in fact it is expected of any country to defend themselves. That is the whole basis of the military. So no, you aren't the only one.

in some ways yes because you should not go into a hostil country knowing you are not going to win how many soldiers and civilians have to die before people understand this
