The Lebanon War (Hebrew: מלחמת לבנון, Milkhemet Levanon), also known as the Operation Peace of the Galilee (מבצע שלום הגליל, Mivtsa Shalom HaGalil in Hebrew), began June 6, 1982, when the Israel Defense Forces invaded southern Lebanon. The Government of Israel gave a green light for the invasion as a response to the assassination attempt against Israel's ambassador to the United Kingdom, Shlomo Argov by Fatah - Revolutionary Council and to artillery attacks launched by the Palestine Liberation Organization against populated areas in northern Israel. See also Operation Litani.

After attacking PLO, Syrian and Muslim Lebanese forces, Israel occupied southern Lebanon. Surrounded in West Beirut and subject to heavy bombardment, the PLO and the Syrian forces negotiated passage from Lebanon with the aid of international peacekeepers.

AND THOSE RESPOSES ABOVE BLAIMING ISRAEL FOR EVERYTHING SHOULD READ MORE HISTORY, THIS CONFLICT GOES BACK SEVERAL GENERATIONS AND IS NOT ABOUT LAND, THAT IS SOMETHING YOU GET FROM THE MEDIA.

Because Syria was using Lebanon to fire rockets into Israel. Israel went in to secure a buffer zone so the short range rockets couldn't reach them. When they pulled out in 2000, the hardliners in Israel said that Hezbullah would just move back in and use the are to shoot rockets into Israel again. It appears they were correct.

the israeli dream is to occupy more land in the region and to enlarge their piece of land from the nile river in egypt to degla in iraq.. they invaded and ocuupied sinai in egypt n 1967 till they were forced back out in 1973... they were forced out of the occupied parts in syria and part of lebanon too. they invaded south lebanon back in 1982 and stayed there till they were forced out by hizbollah in 2000. now they have found another excuse to go back to lebanon and by the help of the US they can get iraqi land and eventually syria too as they are trying to call them terrorists all the time and sooner or later they will impose sanctions on them. remember too that they occupied palastnian land in 1948 and now they call this land israel and made some people believe that.. they just want land, land and more land

Israel want's to get lands from Nile to Forat.. that's their 1000 year strategy.. and if Arabs didn't unite they will reach their goal. it's a matter of time.
