For starters, you get 10 points. (If you have the option turned on it will send you an e-mail) Then after that, whenever someone goes to that question they will have the opportunity to give you a thumbs up or thumbs down, based on whether they like your answer and think it should have been chosen as the best answer. You don't lose points for thumbs down, but for every thumbs up you get 1 point. After gaining so many points, you will go up in levels, which will allow you to ask more questions and answer more questions.

When your answer is judged as Best Answer, you recieve 10 points, which aid you in gaining level. As you gain in level and points more and more of the service and features are opened up to you. Also you build a bit of reputation for being knowledgable in certain fields, this makes it more likely that people will trust your advice the next time you go to answer a question.

You get ten points, and the red words "best answer" show up in your list of answers. Now you are seriously on your way to addiction! Wait until you start getting thumbs up ratings, and people put approving comments on the answer, and the next thing you know, you're answering more and more questions, and searching out the categories where you know more than other people, and getting listed in the top ten in your favorite category, up the levels, more answers, more points, more votes, more ratings, more time sitting staring at that monitor and clicking away on the keyboard, more crumbs from the pizza flavored goldfish you crushed underfoot when they fell, more email messages from your friends asking what's become of you.
Yep, you're on your way! Welcome to Answerholics Anonymous! (There really is such a group, but they are not trying to cure their addiction.)

You get 10 points, in addition to the 2 you got for simply answering. The more points you get, the higher level you become. The higher level you are, the more questions and answers you can post. (And the more points you have, the more points you can afford to use on asking questions.)
If you get a LOT of best answers in a category, you become listed as the category's Best Answerer, which gives you...um...the Y! Answers equivalent of street cred, I guess.

You get an e-mail, an extra 10 points and then people have the option to rate your answer. For each thumbs up you get when people rate you you get 1 point (up to 50 thumbs ups)
Best answer is here.

You get a cookie and a pat on the head for being a good boy/girl.
Actually, it means nothing but points. The best answer gets you more points. And for some of us, it is a guide to see how accurate our answers are.

You get 10 points AND your name goes into the drawing for a free toaster at the end of each month. I think that the raffle is rigged, though, because all the people with good-looking avatars seem to be winning the toasters!!
