To a very limited extent, perhaps. You have to remember that the powers that the X-men have are physically impossible -- you're defying the laws of physics to shoot lasers out of your eyes, control the weather, or run 200 miles an hour. There is no such thing as adamantium, and fusing any metal to your skeleton would kill you because it isn't porous like bone. Juggernaut couldn't smash through walls the way he did because he simply didn't have the mass.
There is the possibility that some physical advantage might happen from a mutation that makes someone marginally stronger, faster, or smarter than the average human, but not to the point where some 150-pound, average looking kid can suddenly lift armored cars over his head with one hand. They just might be the next generation of Olympic world record holders or something, but not superheroes. Since there's no conclusive evidence that either proves or disproves things like telepathy, I suppose it's possible that there might also be a mutant who could actually do it, but blanking out the minds of everybody in an entire city and making them mindless slaves to your will is well beyond the abilities of anyone without... well, a TV contract, but you know what I mean.

I have to agree. The X mens powers were physical impossibliltys that wouldn't be possible in our world.
While genetic mutations can produce humans that are faster (with better muscle tisuse) smarter (better IQ or faster electrical impulses) they will never be able to produce someone that can shoot laser beams out of the their eyes.

Nope. Mutations cause problems never benefits. Certainly not powers.
I'd buy Captain Marvel (of Shazam) as more realistic than X-men.

"Physical impossibility" aside, even if we did manage to have genes that could produce proteins to mimic the powers of Xmen (something we can't even create precisely controlled technology to do for most of the powers), there's still one major factor:
The energy.
Even if you could implant huge lasers into your eyes (which, by the way would vaporize things more than it pushes things around like they try to pretend in the movies), you'd still drain most of your body's energy reserves within minutes.
The impossibility in X-men isn't just that their powers exist due to biological reasons, but also that their (still relatively) human bodies have the ability to sustain such powers.

Mutations don't give magic powers.
A friend of mine in college used to say that Angel was the most likely of the X-Men -- but he wouldn't have feathers and couldn't fly.

No, because all of the "powers" that the x-men had were physical impossibilities. No living animal could ever shoot light out of its eyes, for example.

Man can do anything, can`t he.Once genetic manipulation is possible then there`s no stopping to create X men.
