I would classify it as shaky, not just the PS franchise either, the whole company is on uneven ground. With all the developement costs for the cell processor, and betting the farm on bluray technology, they could be in a world of hurt if it fails. Just for the info as well, the $600 price tag is still $200+ UNDER cost for Sony.

However, the $500 version while it still has bluray capabilities, it DOES NOT support HDMI which will be REQUIRED in the future for BLURAY playback because the RIAA is in a fit about illegally copying movies. So you may have yourself a bluray player, but unless your TV and your SOUNDSYSTEM are all compliant with the digital rights technology that the RIAA is making mandatory, it's going to be a waste of $ until you do.

Yes. Heres the story of The Fall of the Sony Empire. One day in late 2004 the president of Sony had a gleam of triumph in his eyes. He thought for sure that Sonys empire was finally coming back after months of low sales. The Playstation 3 and the PSP would save them for sure it was just a matter of time. Little did he know of the coming danger. Sony had risen above all others in nearly everything electronic but that was about to change. Then Nintendos DS launched and out numbered the PSP in sales. Late in 2005 Sony was still suffering Sony was worried with the announcement of the Nintendo Revolution Controller even though they refused to show it. As if that all wasnt bad enough the Xbox 360 launch was just around the corner. The Xbox 360 had a huge launch and Sonys suffering continued. In Spring 2006 Sony was forced to push the launch of the Playstation 3 to November. At the E3 2006 sony shocked the world when it announced that the Playstation 3 would cost $499 for a less powerful version and $599 for a more powerful version. Sony had just droped a bomb on themselves. The Nintendo Wii(previously called the Revolution) dominated the E3 with its unique controller. After the E3 the president of Sony had a look of defeat on his face. That night sun set on an empire and a generation. About 10 years ago Sony rose from the shadows in the video game industry and in 2006 faded into the light

Who Gives two ****s!!

We all know that sony was doomed when the first playstation came out!

Nintendo Wii will come in second place for its interactivity and gameplay

XBOX 360 will Win because of it being the greatest and most powerful console ever to be made on the planet!
It has Gameplay, Realistic Graphics, and pretty soon Halo 3!

I really wanted to buy a PS3 but when I saw the price, I had to pick my jaw off the ground so that's why I will not buy it. The first time I saw the Nintendo Wii controller I laughed and thought to myself you have to be joking, but the Wii is more of an interactive gaming console, and the price is reasonable also, plus you can go online with the Wii and purchase games all the way back from SNES, now isn't that cool or what, I will definately buy the Nintendo Wii, wanna join me? Good Luck.:)

There is quite a large following loyal to Sony Playstation that is willing to wait for PS3 and willing to pay, provided they are able to produce quality games for it.

Success or failure of any console is mainly due to support (or lack thereof) by the game producers.

With respect to Blu-ray, it is a higher capacity format than HD-DVD. The market still hasn't decided which one is going to win.

Id say so, not a lot of people are going to fork over 600 buck for a system, especially with xbox 360 going down in price and with Nintendo new system cost only about $250.

The price isn't there only problem but unless they come out with a miracle they aren't going to be able to compete with both the wii and the xbox360 because you can buy both of them for the price of the ps3
