Her name was Laura Branigan, and she did have several hits after gloria:
solitaire-reached #7
How am i supposed to live without you- reached #12
Self Control- reached #4
and three others that reached the top 40
she indeed was a great singer. She took a break from singing to take care of her sick husband.

That's a great question. I've often wondered about many great singers who've had a hit or two and then disappeared. Perhaps it 's that they never found great material after that, or the people that they were working with really let them down, or they really found that show biz as not as great as it seemed to be. Maybe people like Laura find more happiness in living a "normal" life than living the life of a superstar. Or it could be that audience didn't latch on to her and she had to find other things to do. Sometimes the listening public is fickle. We like something for a bit and soon grow tired - that's why people like Madonna seem to make a living of reinventing themselves...seems to be the key to keeping people interested. Anyway, the bottom line is... I don't know what happend to Laura, but I do know she gave us some great music. :)

Laura Branigan was a great singer, and had many hits after Gloria, including Solitaire, How am I supposed to Live
without You?, and others on her greatest hits CD, highly recommended. I had not heard she died.

Disagree - she had many hits after 'Gloria' as everyone here has mentioned, had a 5-octave range voice and was a very talented and popular lady. She also portrayed Janis Joplin in the production, 'Love Janis'. Unfortunately she died very suddenly and unexpectedly, August 26, 2003.
Miss you, Laura.

actually she had a few other top ten hits
one of which was co-written and later covered by Michael Bolton
"how am i supposed to live w/o you" top ten hits for both of them
she also had song on the ghostbusters soundtrack"hot night"
other top tens are "power of love" and "solitaire". there may be more. i believe she also one a few grammys as well. i think what happened is she became famous and top ten hits when other people covered her songs.
it's kind of like carol king...she wrote and sang lots of songs but her songs were most famous after being covered by other people.
