Tupac and Biggie depending on the Coast.... I also think DMX has had major influence on alot people So has snoop and Dr Dre. Rap its self is a art that it is hard to determine

I agree Tupac but DMX nope he is not that influencital look at older rappers when rap first came out. Like LL Cool J Snoop Dog RUN DMC people startes wearing addias after RUN DMC

The late, great, Real Don Steele. He was an AM radio disc jockey in the 60's who spoke (rapped) over the intro to rock records on the am dial. This, along, with a couple other dj's probably gave rap its start. There was also a tv show called Let's Rap in L.A. which was a talk show.
Grand Master Flash was probably the one who started it all being popular in the form of being in the full song; but there were also some Jazz artist's including Champion Jack Dupree, who have rapped or did skat, which is probably the grandfather of rap.
