The Google Video Plug in has now grown into such a larger project it had to be renamed. The plug in now supports MUCH more then just Google, but for those who downloaded it and are currently using it. Upgrading to this plug in will only help you; you will have to make no changes to your current posts. :)

Download here: Extreme Video Plug in 2.0 BETA
Extreme Video Plug-In 2.1 BETA
Update Here: Extreme Video Plug-In 2.3 BETA

2.3 Update

XHTML 1.0 Strict
(opt)click and save page as: Flash FLV Personal Player
developers - Flash FLV Personal Player FLA

(opt)Support: Extreme Video Examples

this file shows all the possible ways of using the plugin

This player will allow you to play ANY FLV on the net. You may also right click on this link and select save as, it will tell you the file is go.php just save it as flvPlayer.swf I promise thats what you will get :). Instructions are later in this article.

Why is this a beta plug in? I have had no time to let other people test it. So as of right now it is beta. Hopefully people get back to me with any issues and code changes I need to make. After I feel this plug in is set and ready to go I will change it into a stable release. For peace of mind, I am using this on my site and I have had great success.

Features Include:

You Tube Support
Google Advanced Player Support
Support for any FLV
Quick time MOV Support
Google Java script for Full screen and Flash 7 Detection
Code Reorganization , allows plug ins to use the E.V. Functions
“Pageless” Full Screen Javascript PopUps
Customizable Classes for each type of video
XHTML 1.0 Strict Compliant
FLVPlayer with Proxy Support
Proxy was added for quicktime. Proxy shows and image instead of the actual movie.
There are so many changes and Instructions for upgrading, or installing this plug in please read on for details!

Thanks to everyone for trying this plug-in, I truly hope its helping people!

To upgrade this plug in simply:
1. Download the wp-ExtremeVideo.phps file.
2. Download the flvPlayer.swf
3. Deactivate and Delete the old wp-GoogleVideo.php.
4. Copy the flvPlayer.swf somewhere into your web root
5. Copy wp-ExtremeVideo.phps into your plug in folder.
6. Rename to wp-ExtremeVideo.php
7. Open wp-ExtremeVideo.php in any editor and edit line 108 to represent your path to the flvPlayer
8. Optionally edit any classes listed above line 129
9. Activate the Extreme Video Plug in

To Install this plug in from scratch:
follow the same steps as above, except you don’t need to remove the older version so skip step 3 :)

2.3 update
plugin and popup’s are XHTML 1.0 Strict compliant

2.2 update
All code used in the browser now validates according to validator.w3.org This inclused ALL types of video FLV, YouTube, Google, and even QuickTime MOV. Special styles were added and browser workarounds were used to allow MOV files to validate, the procedure can be found here

The popup windows for the Stand Alone FLV player and the Stand Alone Full Screen MOV player also Validate under XHTML 1.0 transitional

2.1 Update
The problem at hand was that FLV and MOV files by nature, start streaming the video upon being created. If someone had 3 or 4 videos on there homepage they would all start to download everytime someone hit the page. This is a lot of bandwidth to ask for. So proxy images have been added. you will need the newest flvPlayer and wp-ExtremeVideo Plugin (2.1) to get this working. One installed (follow the same instructions) you will see a image for every MOV and FLV file you attach. The user can then click on that image and the video will start, this prevents movies from all downloading once the page opens. Thanks to apsey for bringing up this problem I hope this clears things up!.

“Pagessless” PopUps?
What this means is there is no actualy “page” that is being opened. When a full screen viewing of a video is requested by user click Javascript pops up a empty window and writes code into it. Allowing a dyanmic pageless full screen page. This was just alot eaiser then asking everyone to download a popup.html page and placing it somewhere. So to sum it up. You get popups, for full screen video :)

Add Style:
Browse to your themes folder, and edit the style.css of your theme in any text editor add the following lines at the bottom

.googleVideo_holder, .yourTubeVideo_holder, .personalPlayerVideo_holder, .quickTimeVideo_holder{
text-align:center;
border: 1px solid #a9a9a9;
padding: 10px 10px 10px 10px;
background:rgb(200,200,200);
}

.googleVideo, .yourTubeVideo, .personalPlayerVideo, .quickTimeVideo{
border: 2px solid #a9a9a9;
background:rgb(255,255,255);
padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
}

.googleVideo_link, .yourTubeVideo_link, .personalPlayerVideo_link, .quickTimeVideo_link{
font-size:.8em;
width:100%;
text-align:right;
}

You will notice I am using the same class for each type of video, you can change this however you wish. This is just to get a basic style around your videos

Now that the simple things are out of the way I will detail some of the new features of the plug in. To begin I will go over the ways of places these different types of Video into your post. All stem from the basic principle of anywhere in your post add the line (gv data=”_dataString” width=”_width” height=”_height”)(/gv).

NOTE: You must use [ ] instead of ( ). I used ( ) to keep my blog from rendering that as a video.

The width and Height variables are always optional. Though dataString maybe any of the following:

1. Path to Google Video copy and pasted from ‘put on site’ link the path should start with
http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf
and end with
&playerMode=embedded
A Full example (Please use [] instead of ()) is:

(gv data=”http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?videoUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvp.video.google.com%2Fvideo
download%3Fversion%3D0%26secureurl%3DigAAAD9kES-4UIQOLxxjUW9Yc5v7H0tD07ZbmxrTwy2PYCdS005-kE

%26begin%3D0%26len%3D230366&thumbnailUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.google.com%2FThumbnailServer%3Fc
ontentid%3D42f9d70eaef0bd8e%26second%3D5%26itag%3Dw320%26urlcreated%3D1137228267%26sigh%3D
NPx8FkiLrrdbO3304×1-EhckWpo&playerId=4068767512452275304&playerMode=embedded”)(/gv)

2. YouTube Video Code
An example of this is: given the Perm You Tube URL of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwbCk_lBo8E

the Video code is: kwbCk_lBo8E

so the GV code (Please use [] instead of ()) is
(gv data=”kwbCk_lBo8E”)(/gv)

3. You Tube Perm Link:
Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwbCk_lBo8E

4. You Tube Path to Video
Example: http://www.youtube.com/v/kwbCk_lBo8E

5. If you have downloaded my flvPlayer and properly placed it in your web root somewhere. Then Also edited line 108 of the plug in to reflect where it is you can use the following method to show ANY flv from any web source. (Please use [] instead of ())

(gv data=”http://www.myserver.com/mycoolvideo.flv”)(/gv)

6. Any Quick time movie can be used by setting the data to the path. Like in this example (Please use [] instead of ())
(gv data=”http://www.myserver.com/videos/myqtvideo.mov”)(/gv)

Those are all the data types for this version of the plug in. Now onto the difficult stuff.

Flash security is known as the sandbox, and pretty much to sum it up that means that if you want a script to access your flash movie the script and the Flash movie must be located on the same server. So if you are watching a video playing from googles googplayer.swf located on video.google.com and you would like a JavaScript function located on www.yourhost.com to work with it, that’s simply not going to happen. This is the problem I ran into fixing the full screen bug.

Most of you probably don’t even see a full screen option in your google player. This is because copying and pasting the link from the “put on site” link automatically enables a player with less options. This Google player does not have the full screen or any screen control options for that matter. If you would like to include the advanced Google player in your blog these are the steps you have to take. I will warn you they are much more difficult then the rest of the plug in :) If you are not worried about having a full screen button for your Google Videos I recommend just skipping all this mess.

To begin we must fix the problem of having the googleplayer.swf located on googles server and the JavaScript located on your server. Something has to give and both of these need to be located together. Since Google wont let us put code on there server we will have to put there player on ours. For this I have come up with two methods. The first, and easiest

Google SWF Download Method
browse to http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf and simply save the page. You now have the Google SWF. Copy this SWF to your web root, or some folder within your web root. Open the Extreme Video plug in a text editor and edit line 77. You need to define where the SWF is located in your server. This should be an absolute url like http://www.myserver.com/googleplayer.swf
Line 77 would then look like this

DEFINE(’GV_MYGVURL’,'http://www.myserver.com/googleplayer.swf’);

Hack the Sandbox
The second option is to “Hack the Sandbox”. Now this method shouldn’t really work and is more like hacking then it is a fix. I don’t know if one should really use it so the details on all of this are kind of sketchy. ALSO I probably shouldn’t be blogging about it, but hey what the heck if its a security issue they will fix it right? :)

The object is to make it believe the SWF is coming from www.myserver.com when really the file is located on video.google.com. In order to do this you can use some mod_rewrite. If you don’t know what that is, I don’t recommend using this method, go back and just copy the file from Google. If you have an idea of how to edit a .htaccess file. Please move on.

In order to trick flash into thinking the SWF is on your server when really it is on googles add the following line’s to the very top of your .htaccess. Modify these lines as needed if RewriteEngine is already on

RewriteEngine On
# GOOGLE VIDEO REWRITE
RewriteRule ^gv.swf?/?$ http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?%{QUERY_STRING} [P,NE]
# END GOOGLE VIDEO REWRITE

What does this do? Well it takes any requests going to http://www.yourserver.com/gv.swf?querystring and
passes them on to video.google.com.googleplayer.swf?querystring. Thus flash THINKS the swf is on your server http://www.yourserver.com/gv.swf. When really that is just a pretend file that links to googles. Tricky I know, hacking, probably. But the method does exist if one would like to use it.

If you use this method make sure you go back into the Wp-ExtremeVideo plug in in your text editor and check out link 73. The definition needs to be pointing to gv.swf.

I apologize for the complexity of this method, but hey it is hacking and most will probably not need to use it.

Once the player has been downloaded or fake linked you can now use Google Advanced player links. In order to get one of these links browse to any google video page, whichever video you wish to include on your blog. For example browse to this page
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5797108766137110904

One there Right click anywhere in open space on the page and select View Source. You will now see the FULL html of the page. Look for the line the begins ‘data=”/googleplayer.swf….’ then copy and paste everything that comes after that until you reach “playerId=XXXXXXXXXXXXXX” a full example is

?videoUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvp.video.google.com%2Fvideodownload%3Fversion%3D0%26secureurl%3DigAAA
Ggluarxcz2cFy9z3nDENtrWgziBBSZBUbx-yGJKAaKjp67TWnyuof4k9tl0srlZgRwBhhPzG78pMgYA0×1Zg0EaUqiBH

1pCVh6KRI-w%26sigh%3DD0d-d2B37JWt_VHyghKXUFZgPtg%26begin%3D0%26len%3D30062&
autoPlay=true&playerId=5797108766137110904

You may also remove the words &autoPlay=true from the string. So that the video does not start on its own. A Full example of this using the plug in is (Please use [] instead of ())

(gv data=”?videoUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvp.video.google.com%2Fvideodownload%3Fversion%3D0%26secureurl%3
