Tool is one of the only ones that comes to mind. I guess you could count Metallica's first three albums, especially Master Of Puppets. I guess you could count Opeth/Death, but they are much more 'black metal'. Dragonforce is "extreme power metal" but it's complex, considering how fast it's played (usually fast music is very simplistic), so I guess you could kind of sort of count it. You may want to count Endo, but it's more 'recent metal' with the addition of poppy lyrics. I suppose you could count Iron Maiden, despite it not being really, and also Judas Priest. Rush counts as well sort of. That's about all I can think of. Just look for older metal stuff, from the 70s and such.

I'm not sure what progressive metal is. Most of the stuff that people listed on here is good though.
