There's a general misconception as to how many times one can actually contract the chicken pox virus. Once is standard, but if the first case was mild, getting the (pox) for the second time can, and does happen. One of my nephews had such a mild case of chicken pox the first time my sister thought great he's done. But within a couple of years he came down with the chicken pox once again, and that outbreak was really bad.
I remember stripping him down before bed and bathing him in Epsom salts, and using a medicated ointment to help stop the itching. That poor guy was a mass of scabs from head to toe. There wasn't so much as a single square inch on his little body that didn't sport a scab or two.

I have heard it from several Doctors that one can get chicken pox many times. It used to be said that once one got it, that one would be immune to any future exposure, but this has been proven to be false. I know several adults who (unfortunately) have gotten new instances of chicken pox and as adults, this manifests as shingles.

If you have a good strong case of it, only once. Our son had a very light case the first time, and got it again a few years later. If a kid hasn't gone through it by the time they reach their teens it's much harder on them. And in adulthood it's even worse. Many parents feel it's beneficial to "expose" their children when they are young so they can get it out of the way.

I believe the answer is just once. After that you have built up an immunity and shouldn't get it again. I think there are rare cases where someone gets it a 2nd time, but they are usually very mild cases.

I actually had them twice. The first time it was a mild case. The second time it was awful. The doctor said that there are cases of people having them twice if they don't have them bad the first time. Don't happen too often though.

Once someone has been infected with the disease, they usually develop protective immunity for life. It is fairly rare to get the chickenpox multiple times, but it is possible for people with irregular immune systems.

Generally you are supposed to only get it once. However if you did not get it very bad or were very young when you got it, it is possible (tho rare) to get it again as an adult if exposed.
