all through school, there were time limits to eat in. I come from a large family also so you don't eat fast..you don't eat! And now when i am in the real world and there is a time limit on lunch breaks. Inhaling is "standard practice" in the fast pace world.

It's really best to chew, especially if you're trying to savor your food or get the full taste. But if you are extremely hungry or have little time to eat, it's still best to take reasonable-sized bites and chew each bite for at least 10-15 seconds to prevent choking or other effects.

This also aids highly in digestion and can prevent some health-related problems (most minor). If you are watching your weight, or concerned with dieting in the least then chewing your food can really help. You will feel full after having consumed less food, since your stomach will be able to send a signal to your brain to stop eating before you have "wolfed" all of it down.

Do not be concerned with finishing everything on your plate, especially since many restaurants serve overly large portions nowadays. Besides, you can always save the leftovers for your next meal and enjoy it again.

I chew it. What's the point of eating if you're not going to enjoy it? When you inhale it, your body still takes 20 minutes to register that it's full, so you're more likely to overeat.

Chew? Who has time to chew? Same with the Lady before me, I have 3 children, no time to chew.

Depends what it is. I inhale pasta but chew salad, for instance. In general, I eat faster than I probably should. Hey, nobody's perfect. ;-)

Chew and eat slowly. for several reasons: It will leave time for your stomach to signal your brain that you are full and actually make you eat less and be thinner. It will help you enjoy the company around you. it will give you less gas because you are trapping less air with each mouthful. it will help your restroom habits because your body will better process the food and use it accordingly and finally, you won't gross anyone out who's eating with you and you'll spill less on your shirt.
