Chances are that they will be monitoring things very closely (they can often track your activity keystroke by keystroke) and will take action if they find out you are breaking the rules.

I am a network administrator so I know what I'm saying. There are plenty of programs out there that monitor your internet usage. It all depends if your IT department has it installed. Chances are if they released a memo then they have some sort of method in place to detect your internet usage.

Follow the memo otherwise you might be talking to the man.

Depending on how tech they are, they can log your activity on the net without touching your computer. It all goes through their main servers / routers / gateways.

If the are much less tech (a small company), what you should do is load Portable Firefox, games and other illicit programs on a flash stick. Plug in it and run them out of the stick.
Using a stick means you get to carry all your bookmarks and stuff along with you. Check this site:

By the way, get back to work.

Not really. And what if you had a job that did not have a computer? You would have to wait until you got home to use one. You use it just because it is there, basically.

Companies are getting very cautious about internet use, as people as a group are highly unreliable and unknowledgeable about using them, and it costs them plenty, one way or another.

And you could get in significant trouble with them using their computer against their policy. Best to just abide by policy. It IS their equipment.

Yes, they can monitor you from the server. Once they see that, they can tell IT to close down internet access just to your computer by closing your inbound and outbound access ports.

Not to mention that fact that the network folks have the ability to log all traffic on the routers, which you have absolutely no access to.
