In case you haven't heard Andrea Yates was found not guilty by reason of insanity. So she'll spend a few years in a hospital and then she'll be free to murder other peoples children.

I believe she knew exactly what she was doing. She uses the psychosis card freely. She did not even mention any thing about delusions or Satan until the next day, when she knew she was not going to get by with the murders.

Lots of people dropped the ball with Andrea Yates. Her husband, her family, his family, their church, their neighbors and countless others who could have intervened before the children were killed. The woman was obviously insane then and is obviously still insane now. She should be institutionalized for the rest of her life for her own safety as well as other's. I don't think the jury had a choice about the verdict. That being said, I wish that there was a guilty but criminally insane where the offender would get placed in an asylum setting not a prison. When Andrea Yates gets to the place with the nice people in white coats they will give her these great pills that will lift the veil of mental illness and she will remember and live with the horrible, horrible thing that she did to her children. I think that is a much worse punishment than spending the rest of your life listening to the voices in jail.

Hey thereI'm kind of torn on this issue, because I think Andrea Yates may have been insane at the time, and her husband probably did nothing to help (did you notice he is already remarried). Having that many babies in that time span would drive anyone nuts lol. BUT I also don't agree with them on letting someone go totally free for murdering her babies, even if she was insane....I think she should've gotten life in prison without a possibility of parole.

No, I dont think that was right at all. She takes the lives of 4 or 5 children and all she is getting is a slap on the wrist. I went PPD after my prganacy and all i did was sit around and eat ice cream and cry for 20 hours a day.

I just feel a real outrage over this, If anyone deserves a life in prison she does.

When they say that she's not guilty by reason of insanity, it doesn't mean that she gets off. She'll still have to be institutionalized, and she'll be considered criminally insane. It only seems like she's getting off because she doesn't have to go to prison, but she'll probably have to spend the rest of her life with crazy people, and that's hell within itself.

I hate the verdict. Fine, want to find her not guilty and remand her to a treatment facility? Great. Sterilize her then. She's already proven she is incapable of raising children. That way she can be her own psychotic self and not endanger another child.

But the first time she even breathes in another child's direction...

Absolutly. She is very certainly guilty. The decision that was made is satanic and very very evil. You can be scizophrenic and nuts and still have a deep sense of morality. She may be mentally ill, but nonetheless, she is guilty. She did it willfully and is a murderer.

It is so hard to say ... if there is to be insanity as a defense then no .. there can be nothing ... NOTHING .. more insane than what she did so she is obviously insane. The real question is what should we actually DO with people who are insane to that level.

I been following this and no I think she needed help, they should have taken the kids from her and her husband before it got to that point, she was insane and delusional, she repeatedly asked for help and was hospitalized but release. her husband should have never have left them with her for that half hour. the fault lies with hospitals and her family
