Why is it that lesbians, bisexual girls, and the girls who act like them, are far more accepted and even embraced in society and pop culture today, but gay guys still get treated with contempt and disgust? I don't get why there is such a huge double standard?

Doesn't anybody else think this is messed up and hypocritical?

Yes it is hypocritical. Why does this happen? My opinion is that the lesbo/bi female does not contradict society's expected role for women as feminine beings. On the other hand, gay males are a contradiction to society's expected roles for men. It's more accepted. Is it fair? Probably not. But if I were you, I wouldn't hold my breath for today's close minded society to change anytime soon. Just my opinion...

It is a double standard between the sexes without sexuality being an issue. Think of these things that females can do and no one thinks twice about them. Two girls can be all kissy-kissy and touchy feely, but that does not necessarily make them lesbians. Two girls can also dance together on a dance floor and still they are not even considered lesbians. These same two girls can hold hands and they are just being girls, because this is what girls are expected be like. Two girls can also share their feelings and they are considered trusted girlfriends for life (not lesbians). Two girls can sit around with rollers in their hair, painting their toe nails, having their nails done, gossiping about boys and what have you; yet, they are just girls doing girl things.

Society expects guys to be the bang them up and shoot them down types that take no dirty business from anyone. By the time males are in the 4th grade, they are shamed into not staying at other boys houses, it just is not masculine. Boys are groomed by their parents to fit rigid gender roles and to be emotionally unavailable. They are taught that only guys who like girls and sleep with only girls are to be admired. Girls are also taught rigid gender roles. As we all know that there are girls who are ultra-feminine (meaning prissy feminine) and only like the ultra-masculine (overtly rude and annoying men), there are girls who are feminine (meaning that they will plant flowers with their own two hands, bicycle, hike, etc.) but they also paint their finger and toe nails, do their hair and still have nice dispositions overall.

Gay guys are not embraced more often by straight men because men typically are less secure in their sexuality than women. It does not make a difference if the guy is gay or straight. Men have allowed themselves (and I emphasis allowed themselves) to be shamed into strict gender roles. A lot of heterosexual men will not hold their wives or girlfriends purses while their partners walk into a store for a few minutes. They are afraid of what someone might think. Some of these ultra-feminine girls do not embrace gay men either because of their over- the- top femininity because they are afraid that they might be challenged as to the real cause of their outward behavior. Oftentimes these prissy girls are threatened by gay men because they are not sure of their partners sexuality so they feel the need to close out any one who might cause them to open up their minds and make a new friend. As mentioned earlier men overall are not secure in their sexuality and fear that they might really be gay, and for them this would be a crushing blow because they were raised to believe that being gay is being less of a human being. Which any forward thinking person knows is a dump truck load of horse manure.

Because some guys have the misconception that they can get bi/lesbian girls and mess around. It's an arousing thing to some guys. But guys fear that gay guys will come on to them and it will threaten their masculinity. Basically, bi/lesbian girls are not seen as a threat but rather a challenge to some guys. But gay guys are seen as a threat to some of guys, so there's the reason for the double standard.

Because straight men like the idea of lesbians and are freaked out by gay men.

most gay guys act very feminine and is looked down upon as unmanly and disgusting really. bi/gay women are points of curiosity really. some straight women will often debate the notion of sleeping with other womena and as a man, I find that intriguing.

Because some straight guys think they'll be able to join in and be part of a trio in which they are the object of affection for two girls.
They don't want any part of two guys doing anything naked, and for good measure, they want everyone to know that they don't want any part of two guys doing anything while they are naked.

Because men in general think that lesbians are sexy. However, only gay men are turned on by gay men.

Because men like sex, and straight men like women who like sex, and like women who like sex enough that they're willing to get said sex from another woman.

Straight men do not, however, like sex with other men.

It's simply a matter of who buys the porn.
