why do people feel the need to dress all in black with black lipstick, fingernails, etc. that' doesn't make you attractive and it makes you look like a freak. Are these people just looking for attention and that's the only way they can find to get it? and saying that your just expressing yourself is another way of trying to get attention toward yourself. You can dress like a nice normal person and still express yourself other ways than making yourself like like a wacko.

ok, i have no idea why those ****ing wackos even call themselves "goths". the original goths back in roman times were similar to the norse. they actually captured rome and sacked it. why do those freaks have to take up the name of a proud warrior nation, and defile it by wearing globs of makeup and black clothes, while cutting themselves and saying the world is against them? the real problem is that they werent hugged enough when they were little, and they think ppl will like them if they act all weird and ****. thank you for your time. : ]

P.S. to all the goths or goth sympathizers who say you dont care what we think of you, or that i should let up on you. WHO CARES! you "goths" rip on how everyone else thinks acts or dresses diffrent from YOU!!!! you ****ers are the biggest bunch of hippocrits ive ever seen!!!

The people answering this aren't goth so you don't get a real answer.
I Started dressing "goth" at 16. I always thought that people dressed that way looked so cool since I was little (when people would complain about the look on talk shows in the late 80s) never dressed that way but I never liked the way I looked in the clothing that everyone wore and was popular. Honesty one Halloween I wanted to dress like a vampire and had a very goth look and it was the time I would say I loved the way I looked. Patterns and colors never looked good on me (in my opinion I looked ugly). I loved the way I looked and I never did before. You could even say I was unhappy before dressing goth. Once I started I felt beautiful with that look. Just because you don't find it beautiful doesn't mean everyone shares that option.
In high school I actually had lots of friends and even was voted prom queen.

I have never once wanted to cut myself and I am not depressed or do it for attention.

There are essentially two kinds of goths; the stylish, and the religious.

My mom, who is in her late 40s, has told me that if she were a young person in my own generation, she would go COMPLETELY goth, just because she likes the look of it all. She would be a stylish goth.

The religious goths are more often than not people who ealier in life tried to be in th "In Crowd", but for whatever reason was rejected. As a result, they adopt the goth subculture lifestyle by REFUSING to like whatever mainstream society considers likeable. If a goth happens to look incredible in a very pleasant green, for example, he/she will dismiss it immediately and instead don all black, maybe with a few white stripes, just as a sort of social protest, then go off and read depressing poetry and listen to death metal as opposed to the entertainment magazines and alternate rock, R&B, or whatever it is that is typical of normal society.

What am I? I'm almost a goth, but never really saw gothhood neccesary. I'll wear a Nightmare before Christmas t-shirt every now and then, but nothing major. *l*

Why do people into hip-hop dress as they do?

Why do so many people in the south dress in a cowboy style?

Why do preppies look like they have a pole shoved up their *ss?

I don't think goths dress like freaks, and, what you have described is only one particular goth look.

Being a nice normal person, you can dress in whatever manner you feel comfortable in.

Bear in mind that no matter how you dress, you are expressing yourself. If you are dressing in such a way as to not draw attention to yourself, then you are exressing yourself.

Be cool dude.

Goths dress like what they would most like to be and to be known as: "Children of the Night." The real question is why do people feel a need to conform to dull fashions in what is supposed to be a free society? What kind of freak insists that we must all wear button shirts, ties, khaki pants, and leather shoes? There is nothing more dangerous ill than a neurotic need to conform to the ordinairy.

They dress like that because they are going for the shock factor. Anything to go against authority. They say they want to be an individual but they are dressing like many other individuals so how is that being an individual.
They are trying to draw peoples attentions. They have chosen to do it in a negative way.

What do you go around naked so you don't express yourself and don't relate to any subculture? Both my kids are goth and the oldest one is a deacon at the church. The elderly ladies adore him in his black attire and his long black hair.
Your statement is your opinion and like something else everybody has one.

i dont like they look like freaks, I think goth girls are really hot. I used to dress that way, and the only reason i did it was becouse it made me feel like me and I didnt care what others think of it.

ok asshole we dress this way cuz it's called freedom of expression. also we do not want to be part of your mundane far right-wing world and for your info theres no such thing as "normal" all the things that are normal has something creepy with it.
