Your first appointment will involve a survey about your family and medical history, along with a general physical. They will do a little blood work, and also a gynecological exam. Oh, and you'll have to do a urine test just to make sure you're pregnant (like you don't know).
I would suggest taking the Walmart brand prenatals, they're pretty good. Doctors will often give you a prescription for a specific prenatal vitamin, along with iron sometimes. If you get the good ones, they taste like cake. You'd need to take them with food, and along with dinner if they tend to make you nauseated.

The 1st Dr's visit they will get a medical history of your family and yourself and your Husband or boyfriend to see if the baby is prone to any diseases or anything like that. They will do an internal examination to better gauge if you are 9 weeks or less than or further along.I was 10 weeks pregnant when I thought I was almost 9 weeks...a week does matter. They will also take your blood pressure ask if you have any questions, they may take an Ultrasound of your baby..I had one done at 9 weeks and they measure the fetus to make sure it is growing and thriving. They may also ask if you know what Hospital you want to deliver at..some Dr's only practice in certain hospitals so you should find out what Hospitals he delivers at.Other than that, not much else is done.Oh,they do bloodwork as well and make you take a urine test each time you go for a appointment. If you aren't on prenatals they will give you samples of some and write a prescription for some too. It's been my experience the ones the Dr prescribed made me nauseous,so I went to the health store..GNC and got some there.Just make sure they have 400 mcg of folic acid and lots of calcium and iron.Any prenatals are good as long as it has all the nutrients the baby needs to grow. I wish you the best for the "both "of you!

Yes, get to the doctor ASAP. I'm almost positive that my doctor did the first ultrasound by then. Bring a blank VHS tape if you want to record it. They might draw some blood (it seems like they di that every other visit for a while) and of course push and prod at you stomache to make sure everything feels ok from all angles. You will be able to hear the hearbeat. I recommend buying' What to Expect When You're Expecting' or some other pregnancy book. It will give you a better idea of upcoming changes and you can go ahead and ask your Doc about them. And bring a list of questions to ask. As your preganancy progresses you'll find that you will forget things more easily. I think by the time I had my son I had 4 notebooks around my house for various lists. As far as vitamins go, I took a brand they had at WalMart, OneSource, and they were cheap and wonderful. They will probably give you some samples when you go in, just be careful and read the packaging. Some have a laxative in them, and others give you energy.

Many persons even take prenatals earlier than they end up pregnant, so commencing them asap could be rewarding. However, I used to be in no way equipped to take mine within the 1st trimester when you consider that I obtained extreme morning illness and couldnt hold meals or water down allow by myself tablets that further to the nausia. although your document appointment isnt for a at the same time but, you'll nonetheless name them and ask them to name in prescription for prenatals. I purchased my 1st dose on the retailer then discovered at my 1st appointment that my coverage could have blanketed them without spending a dime. So if that's the equal for you, get the prescription. If now not, simply purchase ones over-the-counter. You want the nutrients and folic acid. Take them earlier than mattress if experiencing morning illness so if that upload to the nausia you will not become aware of it. Good success.

you can find otc prenatal vitamins in a lot of places (drug store, target, wal-mart, etc), just make sure they have folic acid in them. and I think they should all have iron and maybe calcium so look on the label for those too.
at your first appointment, they'll probably spend a lot of time asking you lots of questions. they want to know how grandparents have died, if there's any family history of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc and I think they ask about your ethnicity. some groups are at greater risks for some diseases than others. they will want to know for the father's side too, so take him along if you can (sorry, not sure if you're married or with the father or whatever). they will also ask about your mother's pregnancies, how big the babies were, if she had any miscarriages, developed gestational diabetes, and so on. they got my height, my weight before getting pregnant, did the usual things they do at exams and then had my first pelvic. the whole thing wasn't bad but I was at the dr's office for hours!

Hello and Congrats! Yes, you should go ASAP! Great care is key to a healthy baby. Your 1st appt. is usually bloodwork to check your pregnancy hormones etc, calculate your EDD, most do a sonogram that appt to determine size and tosee if all is on track, but others set it for the next appt., urine pregnacy test, blood pressure, weight and discuss what to expect as far as your prenatal care. You should bring the father or whoever is going to be your support person during the pregnancy. You can take any "Prenatal vitamins" they are all the same. They can make you sick so I would take before bed. Good luck!

They will give you a pap smear, order some standard blood tests, schedule an ultrasound, use the doppler to find the baby's heartbeat, and prescribe the prenatals for you. All pretty basic stuff, and yes, go immediately!
Good luck and congratulations!!!

Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting". It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. Your question as well as many others that you would not expect is in there. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not.
Good Luck!

the best over the counter prenatal is the stuart Prenatal they are in a pink and blue box...the only thing you need to bring to the doctors office is yourself and insureance card if you have one...and if you keep track of your periods and stuff it would be best for you to bring it with you. You will be asked to do alot of things for your first apointment...some even do a ultrasound on their first appointment but some insureances only pay for 1 if so it would be around your 20th week

They give you some samples to take. You need your family medical history. They do blood work to check for STD's and iron level, urinalysis for urinary tract infection and pregnancy check.
You should go soon.
