Are some laws taken too seriously (ie: city bylaws) and are we becoming a whitewashed, paranoid, and uptight society?

Let me re-phrase the question.
I'm referring to smaller, less important by-laws. People who scowl at you when you have your perfectly behaved dog off leash in a public area. Or hanging out in a public park past midnight if all you are doing is chatting with a friend.

I'm talking about North America (Mexico, US, Canada) as a whole, not just America.

There's only one type of law. You either are willing to follow the law or you are not. You can't cherry pick because you disagree with some laws, or they are inconvenient. If you don't like a law, campaign to amend or abolish it. That's how a civilized society functions.
Cities do not make their laws in a vacuum; someone considered it important to have dogs on a leash in your area for example. If you disagree, you could have gone to council meetings, written or voted your views.
However in an orderly democracy, once the majority have made a law, we all are bound by it.

BINGO! I've been victimized several times from our so-called justice system where some law enforcement officer wrote a silly citation for a misunderstanding. One case, I got a citation for an alcoholic beverage in a state park just because I dropped by to pick up a friend on my way home from the grocery store and beer was one of the items in my groceries. Another time, I dumped my wife's uncle's (sick with cancer) trash in a county trash receptacle only to learn he lives just across the county line and it was not the right receptacle. When I went to court, the fine was a mere few dollars less than someone charged with possession of a controlled substance! I also know someone who was charged with the "open container" (alcohol) law because he had a bag of recycled aluminum in his back seat, including beer cans. Total nonsense!
The truth to the matter is that our system is less about justice and more about generating revenue for the city/county. Read blog below.

Yes. And no.
It seams that if it is me then everyone expects me to be Joe perfect and to tow the line. But if it is them then they should be allowed to not only skirt the line but step across as they please and how dare anyone say anything.
I feel that there are some lines that shouldn't be crossed and others that arn't as important. Problem is that others draw the lines differently.
Like the flag. I am a firm beliver that the flag is to be treated respectfully. Others feel that the flag can be treated as they please. I go so far as to be angered when I see that someone has (intentionally) hung it upside down. I don't care if they are protesting something, find another way.
I personally feel that there is an almost universal disrespect for everything in the U.S. lately. This includes everything from the President to other citizens to others property.

The more uptight the better, as far as I'm concerned. Rules and laws are generally enacted for a reason. Most people have several that they simply "disregard". If we all do that, what is the point of a government?
Just follow the rules and behave, if we ALL did that, there wouldn't be half as many regulations as we currently have. All of these regulations come from somewhere, and they wouldn't have if we all just minded our own business and kept to ourselves.

Most laws are probably there for a reason... but often the reason is stupid.
I say, we need less laws, and more officers. What's the point of a no littering law when people still throw crap out the car window? People see that, and figure to themselves that if they can get away with littering, maybe they can get away with doing drugs... and since the cops can't check out every party out there, they do, so maybe they can get away with shoplifting... or rape...
We should only have laws that are worth enforcing.

North American citizens are "stressed-out, confused" kind of people...and afraid of getting sued....everybody is suing everybody, even when a dog barks, or pass gas or sneeze four times in the subway.....they need to relax and get lot of love and attention.....they have money but no peace in their lives.....
Its all my opinion....

Are you nuts? When you get hit by a car driven by a "free spirit" that didn't stop at the red light do you look up from the stretcher and yell, "Way to go, man!"

By the number of criminals out there today and the basic lack of respect for laws, I am wondering what your source is.
