Do they have a B&Q in your area? If so they do fantastically priced kitchen units that are really modern. If not try the yellow pages and phone about for some prices.

The words budget and quality do not really go together when you are referring to kitchen units. The budget units are generally constructed of 15mm chipboard with mdf doors, and with cabinets that go to the floor. One of the problems with this type is that if you are unfortunate enough to have a flood (burst pipe etc) the units will be ruined as the chipboard will 'blow' when it gets wet.
A quality unit will usually be constructed of 18mm chipboard with plastic adjustable legs that not only compensate for uneven floors, but if they get wet, will not suffer any damage. Doors can be mdf or solid wood.
As with all things, you only get what you pay for.
Try Jewson for a selection of both types, I have one of their 'quality' kitchens, and have been very happy with it.
