This is extremely basic and you likely already do it. Every week or two go to Tools and then Internet Options. Click on Delete Cookies and then Delete Temporary Internet Files, remembering to check the box to Delete All Offline Content. That should help a little. Otherwise just remove all the programs you don't use and get a spyware program to delete any spyware your computer may have picked up.

Often times if your computer is running slowly, its not the fault of the ammount of stuff on your machine but how its stored. I suggest you set aside some time to run your Disk Defragmenter. If you don't know where to locate this, go to start>programs>accessories>system tools>disk defragmenter
This will take a long time, but basically it re-organized all of your files on the computer (don't worry you'll still be able to find everything) in a mannor that allows programs to fetch the data they need quicker.

Answer the tuff question "what is CRAP" Bad or unwanted programs are deleted at the ad/remove programs site in the control panel. Unwanted data is deleted by going to the data and deleting it. If all else fails save your important stuff to a thumb drive and launch the recovery disk. You probably have a virus anyway. I know programmers who scrub their hard drives semiannually.

Wow! That was harsh. There are lots of programs for cleaning up your computer - but also, you can try a program like Norten to kind of realign the data so that it's not so fragmented. A bit of an investment - but worth it in the long run.
