Nothing.
It used to be, but now it is falling apart. Just look at education, the economy, healthcare ect ect. You get the picture.

Well, economically, it's a superpower by any measure (California alone, were it a separate country, would have the 13th highest GNP in the world).
Militarily, it's realistically the only superpower left on earth since the collapse of the Soviet military structure. (Witness the fact that Afghanistan's military was defeated in only 6 months, as opposed to the Soviets' failed takeover that lasted a decade.)
Socially, it's influence is felt around the world, partly because of the other two factors. With the Internet and television everywhere today, much of American society is out there too, in the programs on TV and content of the web.
And for those who think it's a bad influence, may I suggest that ANY leading country would do the same - that's part of what makes it a leading country. When Alexander the Great took over the known world, he had coins made proclaiming him, in effect, a "world leader." Napolean, Hitler, etc all aimed for a way to influence the world. The US chooses to do it in partnership with other nations wherever possible, making it a mre peaceful solution than the others I've mentioned above.
Finally, for those who think the US is an imperialistic nation, I refer you to a comment alledged to have been said by Colin Powell: "Whatever war we fight in, whatever lands we fight on, all we have EVER asked for is land to bury our dead." Would any other country have treated the Japanese so fairly after WWII? Doubtful.

a) It's a country where anybody can be what they want through effort and hard work. There are other countries like that too -- but we were the first one like that. Before that, the class you were born into is the class you stayed in for your whole life.
b) We were the 1st country where "all men (and women) were created equal" is rule no. 1.
c) Our military kicks ***.
d) We are less racist, sexist, and homophobic than just about any other country out there. (Don't let the America-bashing, politically correct lefty types tell you otherwise. These people haven't travelled much.)
e) Our country has produced Jessica Alba, Teri Hatcher, and the chick who's standing on the cliff in that Nature Valley Granola Bars commercial. Say no more!

The pioneers. Back in the youth of "America," it was nothing but frontier. The people who came here in the early days had to work very hard to survive. And only the strong survived. So, there are many strong people in America with the freedom to express themselves. This creates an optimum environment for inventiveness.

-The love for the country displayed by the people of USA.
-The wicked ways of pitting one nation against another with a "divide and rule" approach.
-The bullying tactics that it uses to force smaller nations to lose out in fair trading practices that could help in improving the conditions in other countries.
-Finding talent across the globe and inducing them to work for USA.

the us has a tendency to swagger before the world and appears as a spoit brat: bragging about its achievements, flaunting its wealth and power. other societies tend to let it be as a child throwing its tantrums, basically.

our government is strong because most of us believe in democracy, even though we are many religions and races. Other governments may be taxing without representation. As futile as you may think your individual voiice is when joined with many you can change history in U.S.A.
