No. House flies have a life span of several days to over a week. Fruit flies, however, do die in one day, and this is what makes them so valuable for scientific research. Scientists are able to trace the effects of whatever they are studying through multiple generations in a very short time.

A friend of mine had thousands in the attic of his garage one winter.It was very odd(kinda Amityville Horror odd) and they stayed until Spring came.

yep it is true....many die in a 1/2 a day do to people swating them, and that is good they have a short life because they carry many bad germs that make pepole sick and some do die.

Mayflies only live for 24 hours, other flies live longer.
