Let's suppose someone owns a vinyl record. Then, that person is lent a CD version of the vinyl record. The person proceeds to rip the CDs audio files onto his/her computer. Since the files are the same sounds found on the vinyl record, does the law protect this person's new digital audio copy?

I would say that as long as you say you are making a copy incase of scratches.

I would say so that this sounds legal to me. But then again, I am not a lawyer.

As long as you don't plan to resale it. I don't see what it would hurt.
