I read that he is on trial because he tried to kill Shite Muslims after they tried to assasinate him. There has to be more to it than that, isn't there?

They did try to assasinate him. But he took out over a hundred and fifty people in retaliation. Many of them women and children.
That is the reason for the trial. Those people didn't get a real trial.

That's just the tip of the iceburg when it comes to people killed by Saddam and Co.

He killed thousands of Kurdish people in Iraq-- just because they were Kurdish. The Kurds are a historically small ethnic minority in Iraq and turkey. THIS IS GENOCIDE

He had rape rooms installed on his army\ air force bases-- so the miltary could punish women-- through rape.

He assualted and attacked a soveriegn nation ---Kuwait.

He is not being tried because he wanted to kill Shi'ite's.

He is being tried for this...

.
On June 30, 2004, Saddam Hussein (held in custody by U.S. forces at Camp Cropper in Baghdad), and 11 senior Ba'athist officials were handed over legally (though not physically, as there is, at present, no adequate Iraqi prison to hold them) to the interim Iraqi government to stand trial for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. Particular attention will be paid to his activities in violent campaigns against the Kurds in the north during the Iran-Iraq War, and against the Shiites in the south in 1991 and 1999 to put down revolts.

It's a show trial in a kangaroo court, so that the US can have something to say as an excuse why they invaded Iraq illegally and continue to occupy the country since they don't have the courage to admit the truth - oil.

SH did not break any laws, so he can't legally be tried for anything.

.. There future history returns Westerners as the enemies of mankind because of their false proganda and suppression of other religions.
.. Americans "WAR AGAINST TERROR" is entirely a false publicity which never can win since their policy is the route cause for the increase of Terrorists. Our government enjoys the temporary arrogance and fear on us.
.. This attitude cannot last long and cannot bring the peace to the world, instead, it will heavily rise the world crisis and we will sole response for everything.

Legally, he initiated the movement that led to the deaths of over 100,000 shiite muslims which was directly related to a assasination attempt.

He's being tried because we can't just let him go now can we?

I ask the same question for different reasons. Considering all the crimes against humanity he has committed, why is he on trial? Why wasn't he just shot when they found him hiding in his rat hole? Oh, yeh, I remember. He screamed, "Don't shoot me, don't shoot me," and the honorable American soldiers spared his miserable life. So much for martyrdom and 72 virgins. I guess it's okay for his ignorant youths to die for Allah, but not the brave Saddam Hussein.

Saddam is on trial for inhumane acts against mankind. He has killed many people just because they made him mad. He ordered his men to rape and kill. Many people at a time was executed on his orders. He not only killed adults. He killed children. Sometimes whole families

More than 30 years of war crimes and crimes against Iraqi people. Last year alone coalition forces dug up more than 600,000 bodies buried in mass graves. Nobody knows how many millions he killed, but we know its a lot. His crimes are mostly against Iraq, and once convicted, Iraq will pass judgement, not the USA.
