If your tiling just the common areas and they are continuous to each other ie : Kitchen, hall, foyer, mudroom etc.

I find most people are keeping the continuity as it increases the overall appearance of the area being tiled.(No start and stop,no transitions etc)

However, changing pace in the baths and being creative is most usually reccomended.

Glad to see you fighting back from Katrina..

Best of luck to you...

It doesn't have to match. I just put 12" tile down in a 2nd floor bathroom, and it doesn't match the 6" tile in the 1st floor bath. It *is* similar in color, but that's about it.

If the tile will be in adjoining rooms, then I would have it match, or at least complement each other - same color/different size, maybe. But if it was at opposite ends of the house, I wouldn't worry.

One caveat - a 10 year old may want some sort of tile that you really don't want - electric blue, for example. Sorry, I wouldn't do that at all!

As long as you use neutral colors that flow well together it will not affect the resale value of your home. Now, if you put in a bright orange pattened tile it would negatively affect the value.

FYI - Most people don't like tile throughout the WHOLE house. People tend to prefer hardwood or carpets in the bedrooms. If you're not going to be selling your house soon, I wouldn't worry about it.

You dont have to match all of the tile. That would be boring. You can vary it but keep it all in the same family. You can have a common theme thru out and still vary it so its not the same in each room.

Good Luck! And sorry you're having to deal with the Katrina clean up still! Best of luck you you and yours.

No be creative in the way you lay it out. They never match things on shows like While you were out or trading spaces.
