a shadow in the lung can be a clue about many diseases, it may mean pneumonia , enlarged lymph nodes or cancer.
the next step is to examine the lung the usual physical examinations after taking a full medical history.
I hope she doesn't smoke

I am not a doctor, but I am familiar with the problem you described. My Mom had a pain in her back that wouldn't go away. The chest x-ray showed shadows.

It could mean several things- lung cancer, pneumonia or something else.

She was sent for tests, lots of tests. She went to a pulminologist and had a bronchiocsope (or something like that). She also had MRIs and PET Scans. She had lung cancer. It had advanced to her back and ribs. I won't go into any more details, because this may not be your gran's situation.

Your grandmothers GP may refer her to a specialist- maybe a pulminologist (lung specialist).

My prayers go out to you. I hope your grandmother feels better.
