The term first came from the writer Mark Simpson. His definition of the term in a salon.com article in 2002 on David Beckham titled "Meet the Metrosexual" coined the term as:
"The typical metrosexual is a young man with money to spend, living in or within easy reach of a metropolis -- because that's where all the best shops, clubs, gyms and hairdressers are. ... he has clearly taken himself as his own love object and pleasure as his sexual preference."
Basically saying, it's a single, heterosexual man who likes to indulge and pamper himself--going against the stereotype of men who are slobs with questionable grooming and hygeine habits.

Metrosexual is a term used to describe men that actually care about their appearance, ex. they might get a manicure every now and then, but there's nothing wrong with that, right?

a Metrosexual is a straight man who mirrors a gay man, i.e. well groomed, (like a girl) well dressed, (ditto) and really cares about his outward appearance (like a girl, gay or foreign man) and they're much more chatty and accesable like the 3 types named above.
